South africa plug type

Type D: mainly used in India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, and some African countries. This socket only works with plug D. Type looks like plug but with larger pins. Check out the following pictures.


When living in the United Kingdom you need a power plug adapter for sockets type M and N. South Africa operates on a 230V supply voltage and 50Hz.

Perhaps you will need adapters for some sockets, but it is usually easier to find adapters at destination if your plug is already being used in the country. It has three round pins: line and neutral 7mm diameter and the longer earth pin 8. And this socket only works with. Type Is looks like plug but with larger pins. Note that a region DVD cannot play on a DVD player supporting another region. If you want to be sure though a better option may be to invest in a worldwide adaptor that is a single unit capable of connecting to multiple socket types.

An adapter plug does NOT change the current or voltage (this requires a converter) unless your appliance is dual voltage. I thought I remembered seeing something like the Type M plugs in older homes when I first came to England back in the 60s. Wire the cable onto this and hey, you have an adaptor into which you can plug four different UK appliances! When you get back home fit the UK plug back. The pins are round. For example a European plug will typically be a Type C, whereas a US plug type will be a Type A. However in Asia you can find that there is a mix of plug types being used. Depending on how much you plan to travel in the future, it may be worthwhile to get a combination voltage converter and plug adapter. This type of plug is used almost exclusively in Italy. Plug type : Non-rewireable Type M plug.
