Car juddering in first gear

When I set off in first gear , my car sometimes stutters and shakes until I put it into a higher gear. What could the problem be? The most likely reason that a car jerks when accelerating from stop is a problem with the clutch. It could be due to worn-out friction material or a pressure plate defect (or combination of both).

Issue seems to disappear when car warms up.

Any one else have this issue as garage don’t know what problem is? The shuddering described in first and reverse gears is typical of a clutch problem. It may be just general wear and tear, particularly if the car has done mainly town driving.

However, it could be it has oil contamination from a leaking crank rear oil seal. When he drove the car the tech agreed that there was a juddering vibration from the clutch in first gear and delivered his prognosis: that it can only be cured with another new clutch, flywheel and. Some info out there suggests it could mean the idle control valve (ICV) needs cleaning as it can apparently get gummed up and stick a bit.

Not having much luck with cars lately.

So, have noticed that recently, when pulling off, especially from cold my car judders slightly in 1st. Never any problems in any other gear , and normally. This is borne out by the fact that the brakes needed replacing at 10miles. Anyone who uses brakes in such a manner probably also has no idea about looking after a clutch properly, as a reuslt this is also shot after 10miles.

Any kind of judder poses a risk to you, your passengers and other road users, should be addressed as soon as possible. Finding out why your car is juddering is often complicated because there are so many possible causes. As the car jurked there was a loud clunking noise, and the car was stuck in first gear.

Luckily it was pretty much outside a garage, so I just pulled over and took it to the garage. Chrysler grand voyager 2. Every time a gear change is require the car’s computer activates a transmission solenoi which directs transmission fluid into the valve body to engage the correct gear. When this is faulty or not working properly, this can cause a delay in gear shifting or in some cases cause the car to not shift at all. Now, I know at the last service there was a small leak in the flexi pipe of the exhaust which the garage said will get progressively worse, could this be affecting things? When I start off from standing the car judders quiet bad.

If I apply excessive accelleration then its ok. This only happens in first gear and only when the car is under a strain eg.

I dont have any other problems in any other gear ,it runs ok when moving,it starts first time and ticks over ok. Had the car out today. No pulling in first like the other day, but it did seem to pull a. I have (i think) the same thing. This has been the same since i had the car 3yrs ago but never thought anything of it.

It is either going to get better (not likely) or worse (this is my guesse) you can try this little trick put the vehicle in third gear while stopped and let out the clutch slowly while stepping on. Re: 1st gear juddering - Gearbox or clutch? But heres the first big issue.

It vibrate but not as much as my car does. My Profile My Preferences My Mates. Juddering in 1st gear. TD auto estate dad-taxi. In cold and wet weather it is more pronounced.

This type of car jerk is very common in a manual transmission for those drivers who are just starting to learn how to drive. In this case, it mostly happens when you are trying to shift from the neutral gear to the first gear when you continue after a pause in the middle of a slope. Only happens in first and there is no.

Hello all, Iv just bought a 2nd hand Vauxhall Zafira plate 27k on the clock, full service history from NetworkQ Vauxhall approved dealers. Iv only had it days and on the second day of using it I noticed the car would judder in 1st gear as setting off, even though this is intermittent, i reported it straight away and booked it in for a check. The engine runs just fine, no problem there. Probably taken a couple of thousand miles of the life but this morning from cold I had no judder for the first time in weeks so hopefully its done the trick. A slipping clutch , which is quite common with age can be diagnosed by getting on a side roa get to 3 engage 4th and.

Almost feels like it wants to put down the power, but cant. If the then accelerate harder, the car clears this point and works its way up the gear fine with no power issues. Almost seems like to stutters a bit at the top end of first or gets a bit stuck and needs a boot of power to clear it.

Try lifting the clutch VERY VERY slowly when you set off in first gear. Much slower than you normally would.
