Broughty ferry lifeboat

During the station’s remarkable history of lifesaving, the crews have been awarded seven medals for gallantry. He’s been training hard for the past few months, this week marching up and down the Law Hill! Weather conditions were exceptionally severe with a strong south-easterly gale blowing across the entrance to the River Tay.

Both station lifeboats were called into action just after 7. With two turbocharged VMAN diesel engines producing a total of close to 0horsepower, Elizabeth of Glamis is capable of knots and has an operating range of 2miles.

It was in this night of terrible storms that the lifeboat with its crew of eight was launched to aid the North Carr lightship which had been torn from her moorings and drifting off Fife Ness. A spokesman for the RNLI said the incident was ongoing and could provide no further details at this point. You can see if your local lifeboat station has had a recent lifeboat launch.

All eight lifeboatmen on board were killed when their vessel the RNLB Mona capsized and ran aground after making a gallant bid to rescue the crew of the North Carr lighthouse which was adrift in the Firth of Tay. Many lives have been lost by lifeboat crews going to the aid of people and vessels in distress at sea and around the coasts of Britain and Ireland (UK, Republic of Irelan Channel Islands and the Isle of Man), mainly but not exclusively in the service of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI).

Broughty - Ferry has job listed on their profile. Another man jumped into try and help him on Thursday afternoon. A man has been rescued by lifeboat after he fell into a harbour. The Watson class, Mona.
